Digital X-Rays

Dr. Walter Tickner and his San Leandro Tooth Team take great pride in professional development and staying current with the best practices in dentistry.

It is common today to hear people express that they prefer to avoid X-rays for concern over exposure to radiation.  Which is one reason why we use digital X-ray sensors instead of traditional X-ray equipment in our dentist office.

Benefits to Digital X-rays:

  • Time efficiency

  • Bypassing chemical processing

  • The capability to digitally transfer and enhance images.

  • Also less radiation can be used to produce an image of similar contrast to traditional X-rays

How does it work and what are the benefits:

  • Instead of X-ray film, digital radiography uses a digital image capture device.

  • As with all digital photography, you are able to immediately preview an image which  eliminates expensive film processing.

  • The photos provide a wider dynamic range, which makes over- and under-exposure less of a concern.

  • The ability to apply image processing techniques that enhance overall display of the image.

  • The comfort for you is greater with Digital X-rays.

  • Dr. Tickner is more clearly able to see your issue or potential issues making pre-emptive care easier to diagnose.

What the Tooth Team is looking for with Digital X-rays:

  • Areas of decay that may difficult to detect with an oral exam such as decay between teeth.

  • Decay which may be occurring beneath an existing filling.

  • Bone loss that happens in conjunction with gum disease.

  • Infection with may manifest through changes in the bone or in the root canal.

  • Guidance when preparing for tooth implants, dentures, or other dental procedures.

  • Abscesses (an infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth).

  • Other developmental abnormalities, such as cysts or tumors.
